+1. Or, at least, a warning message.
There previously was a warning message, but that was removed
(http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revision&revision=720243 and
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revision&revision=984958) as being too
noisy.
I tend to agree that some notification of the lack of persistence would
be desirable.
