One reason for this may possibly be that you already have a qpid broker installed in your operating system (e.g. qpidd - the C++ broker). You can change the port on which the broker is attempting to start up by modifying the broker config file (config.xml), e.g. changing the line that says <port>5672</port> To use a different port.
