No need to apologise, it's all cool.

I think that there's a degree of serendipity in all this in that it serves as a concrete example in the discussion on user/dev and the fact that it's sometimes a grey area with some of us users doing crazy things :-)

I think the encoding discussion is a really interesting one to have had and it's good to hear the different perspectives, plenty of good food for thought.

Agreed again. We didn't do a good enough job in thinking about backward compatibility and the impact of the change to existing users. I failed to mentally join up all the dots sufficiently and apologise for that. Glad it is all working again now though without too much work!
