ServiceMix 3.3 (not yet released) will include AMQ 5.x as will ServiceMix
4.  Upgrading a core dependency such as ActiveMQ in the middle of a point
release such as 3.2.2 is usually avoided unless there is a major bug.

Dave's blog entry above sums it up quite well and should work just fine.  It
has been a while since I did this myself, but I don't recall it taking more
than 10 minutes.
