KOS, Do you have debugging turned on in servicemix? If so, try turning it off.
I have seen similar issues when the message exchange is being logged by servicemix. It seems that if the exchange comes in as a SAXSource (or similar) the process of writing it to the log consumes all of the tokens. When the exchange is eventually delivered to the target the stream is empty and NPE insues.
