I guess that you're talking about JBI endpoints.

In fact, it depends of the component used.

In the ServiceMix JBI, we can send() (async) or sendSync() (sync) the exchange 
to the channel.
The component could send in sync or async.
Some component could provides an attribute defining the sending mode, but most 
of the components don't.

Which component do you use ?
