is there an actual description how to use ocm in sling? I've found a
page marked as outdated with little information.

Looks like Sling's default HTML rendering. If your /pages/home node
has "sling:resourceType": "thun/home" a script at
/apps/thun/home/home.esp should be used to render /pages/home.html.
The recents requests plugin at system/console/requests outputs
debugging information that should help figure out what's going on.
