From the documentation:
"On iPhone OS 3.1.2, you must also specify the range of events you want
to have.
❏ From the Settings menu, choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars
❏ From the Sync menu, choose All Events
Note that other options (Events 2 Weeks Back, etc.) do not work right now. "
