is this the same with mysql? i don't have this setting and all works.

I believe so, although I don't know for sure as I don't use it. It's
only required for the latest version 1.3.5a. It will work without it
sometimes, but you might get weird things like being logged out
automatically or getting blank pages when your session disappears. So,
best to add it.
