Hello,

Yesterday when trying the ZEG VM Sogo image for the first time I took
some notes that would make it better for first-timers. Keep in mind I
approach this from an "Ubuntu user, junior sysadmin, limited or no-time,
manager breathing in your neck" point of view. I believe this fits the
audience of the ZEG VM image.

Here are a few things that didn't work as expected when getting the ZEG VM:

- - The ZEG download is not advertised in the homepage. In fact I posted
about trying SOGo elsewhere and someone else pointed me to it. This link
should be more visible:
http://www.sogo.nu/english/downloads/zeg.html
- - The file extension the VM once extracted wasn't as documented (why
compress it at all ?). Instructions on the download page indicate:
VBoxManage import /path/to/ZEG.ovf (it's .ova).
- - The default network interface came up as eth1 (as decided by dbus at
boot time), yet /etc/network/interfaces file is hardcoded at eth0.
- - Changing the default file required knowledge of sudo and vi, as the
easier text editor (nano) wasn't installed by default.
- - Some requirements or remarkes on the ZEG download page were not clear,
not indicating if anything specific should be done or not after
importing the ZEG:
"The domain you must use for local data is example.com."
"requires Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 or 2010" - what if I want to test
Thunderbird ? Does this mean the server won't work w/o Outlook ?
- - The "in-depth documentation" only has a brief LDIF-only example of
adding a user, which was cut&past of creating the administrator (which
isn't needed in ZEG - or is it?), I am trying this next but will have to
restart from scratch.

- - "Once the appliance has finished booting, a URL will be shown. Please
follow the next instructions from there."
There were many options but no clear use-case for a first time test. My
use case was:
1- Add two users
2- Configure both in separate Outlook/Thunderbird instances
3- Have them create/share contacts/calendars.

Got stuck at #1 which really wasn't expected.

I'll probably be filing separate bugs for the above on my own time, but
I'd still like to be able to get past #1 above.

Cheers,

F.
