It's no longer true. I updated the FAQ. SOGo does handle SMTP error codes.

I thought it might be the case.
I think sometimes the FAQ is a little overlooked by everyone. Perhaps
understandably as the manulas really are excellent, but there are very
useful nuggets in the FAQ.
