I did indeed restart SOGo and assumed it was enough. Rebooting the rest worked.

If you only want to have them in your address book, then why are you
using "canAuthenticate = YES;" ?

Did you stop and start sogod after changing the sogo.conf file?
A restart sometimes is not enough.

Also did you restart memcached?
