Use a text editor to manually add a DNS entry to the local hosts file of
the relevant user's PC. Add the following line to the file:
1.2.3.4 mail.xyz.com
Under Linux the file is:
/etc/hosts
Under Windows it is:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Remember to remove the line if it is not needed anymore! ;)
The URL should now get resolved correctly on the local computer.

Login works, but as soon as the login is complete, the URL changes to
the name i.e. mail.xyzzy.com instead of 192,168.1.10
