Why would you let log file grow to several GB? What happened to configuring log file rotations? :)
Please split the log file into several manageable sizes. Something like this: split -b100m -a5 sogo.log (Split splits the files based upon your size specification whether based upon line or bytes. It then adds a suffix to these files to keep them in order) and do the usual grep on them - grep "string1|string2|string3" file_name.
