That probaby means your SE linux is set up to deny the su program to the
user that was executing the init script. If you do want to run under SE
linux you will need to grant that permission (which is none to
straightforward inSE linux). I've granted things in SE linux a long time
ago, but you're better off googling it than listening to me on that :).

SE Linux also should be emitting (or can be configured to emit) a log of
things it denied  which would give you a clue as to what user needs what
permission for what...
