There's no formal procedure I know of, but I found a similar issue (in
my case, per-user AWL files were growing large enough to seriously warp
the "other folders" mail quota).  I adapted the check_whitelist script
from 2.5x or 2.6x (don't recall offhand which it was) to trim out all of
the entries with only 1 "hit".  In most cases, that provided a fairly
significant reduction in disk usage- in a few cases, a factor of 20 or
more.
