I had actually done a lint and didn't *seem* to find any errors. A careful examination, though, revealed a complaint that Net:DNS was at version 0.23 but need 0.34. Upgraded to 0.48 and lint made successful DNS queries (which weren't done before) and so, maybe I've found the problem.
