Do you use SuSE 9.x?

They install spamc and spamd not in the same directory as ist default to 3.0.x
You hav also to change /etc/sysconfig/spamd because there are obsolet options
( -a ) in the SuSE startup. Also they disable then network test ( -L )

That means you ar startung the wrong / old ones.
