Not exactly. You can use Javascript to put something in the status bar, but AFAIK KMail won't run scripts in HTML mail...and that's assuming you convince it to show the HTML in the first place! (There are big warnings in the UI about how HTML mail is dangerous, and by default it will prefer the text/plain version in a multipart/alternative message. I was getting a lot of apparently-blank spam for a while, because spammers would put in a text/plain part but leave it empty.)
