Trace the spamd using "strace -f", open a bug, and attach the results.
Be sure to use "-f" so that the child spamds are traced too.

Will do -- when it happens again. I'm in the process of trying to convert my bayes DB to innodb to try and solve some of the locking issues I've seen during slowdowns.
