Yes, I think that may well be a very large part of the problem. As I recall
sa-stats (that comes with the distribution) looks for log lines starting
with "spamd" or possibly also "spamassassin". MD, from what I think I
recall people saying, makes log records in a totally different shape, and
maybe even totally different place.
Try searching the archives for logging and mimedefang. I know this question
has come up before, but I don't recall the answer.
