I am running Mailscanner-4.44.6 on a FreeBSD 5.4 box. This product is
running extremely well in reducing the amount of SPAM entering our
environment.

PROBLEM: Possible Database corruption. I've had this problem before.

The first time I encountered this problem is when the spam database has
around 3000 SPAM and about 10000 HAM, the database seems to become
corrupt. I start to receive PERL errors.

The only way around these PERL errors, was to rename the database and
install a new starterDB and feed it spam all over again.

After this, SA-LEARN continued to work perfectly and the PERL errors
went away. I determined it must have been database corruption.

The problem I'm having now is that SA-LEARN is hanging, it doesn't
complete. The last successful SA-LEARN --dump magic indicated I had
around 2000 SPAM.

If I issue a
SA-LEARN --spam --no-sync --mbox /var/mail/spam ,
SA-LEARN --dump magic ,
SA-LEARN --sync ,
SA-LEARN --force-expire

Not one process ever completes. I let it go overnight and I have to
kill the process manually. Is there a problem with the database when it
reaches a certain size?

Any ideas what to do or look for?
