Perhaps it's not ready for prime time. I can't imagine that if it was they would not be making it headline news.
linford has, apparently, stated in posts to newgroups that folks should switch _now_. i think there's a reference in this list's archive, iirc. public announcements, i'd guess, will be made when all t's are crossed etc etc
