I didn't demand an explanation from you ;-) was just musing. But thanks for the URL. That indeed clarifies that it got used specifically to avoid clashes with real hostnames. Btw, it seems the Yahoo answer seems to be a result of wildcarding as yahoo.com gives the same IP numbers.
