You have to be joking if you think that spamassassin rules development
should forever be restricted to whatever crufty version of perl is still
present in the oldest still-supported vendor distro. The decision to
standardize on a 2006-era release of perl in RedHat 5 is not the fault of
the spamassassin team. The decision to run spamassassin on a distribution
that is constitutionally opposed to modern perl is not the fault of the
spamassassin team. The problem is in the system administrator who tries to
hammer every use case into the same square hole. It should be fixed there.
