Hmm. Yes, there is a problem with the Subvresion based download. download works fine with "git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/firebird/NETProvider firebird-NETProvider"
If you need to make local modifications to the code, and store your changes without write access to the upstream branches, this might be a case where git would be useful to you anyway.
