Hi Klaus, I've been facing the same exact problem with validations when also developing a similar component (maybe this should be taken as a suggestion for the tapestry developers to include a more traditional date field...)
What I've found out so far is that you can inject a FormSupport object that has a defer() method taking as its first argument a command whose execution will be postponed until the wrapping form is submitted. I think that meets our requirement. The problem is that when that deferred action is executed, the component is in a "weird" state: for instance, it happens to me that all the component state is nullified.
