Ok. Version 1.2 of tapestry-breadcrumbs released with a manifest with the Tapestry-Module-Classes specified. A @SubModule is no longer needed in your apps module-class.
it was as simple as creating the manifest-file and then telling maven-jar-plugin to use that file as it's base manifest.
