I am sorry, I overlooked your question.  I am using 5.5.12 version of
TOMCAT.  I read documentation, but I am not sure what restriction for the
path you are referring to.  Is it "In addition, you MUST define a Context
with a context path equal to a zero-length string." or what?

Which Tomcat 5?  The rules for <Context> are different in 5.0.x and
5.5.x versions.  Please be specific.

Please read the documentation, in particular:
http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/config/context.html

Note the restrictions on use of the path attribute.
