Could it be as simple as having set the "address" attribute?

I run in AWS and never bother setting the "address" attribute. I
haven't had any problems with Tomcat 5.5.x - 8.0.x though I can't
offhand remember if I've ever used APR with it (we don't typically use
APR).

What if you switch to BIO or NIO connectors?
