For starters, a good description of your system.  My question is do
you access Tomcat directly or via some proxy / front-end web server?

Are those requests processed by Tomcat? Do you see them in Tomcat access log?

Can you try the versions between 7.0.42 and current .57 (47, 50, 52,
53, 54, 55, 56)?

Can you simplify your application to some simple example that fails?
