Completely unnecessary. Only very ancient versions of mod_jk used that
for anything. I can't even find old documentation that states
definitely what that is used for, but I have to guess it was for some
kind of in-process embedded Tomcat that mod_jk would launch or some
ill-advised thing of that nature.

If you find a mod_jk configuration containing "java_home" or "ps"
settings, you probably want to throw the whole thing out and start
over from scratch, using the current documentation as a guide.
