If the original classes are still used after restarting Tomcat, then you must have them in some location being searched by one of Tomcat's classloaders, or you didn't put the revised ones in the proper location. Verify that you have nothing on your CLASSPATH environment variable and that the classes in question do not appear in multiple places in the classloader tree: Bootstrap | System | Common / \ Catalina Shared / \ Webapp1 Webapp2 ...
