MySQL does have triggers in MySQL 5.0.2 and upward. A sequence can be implemented using a table with a single AUTOINCREMENT field. Kind of a hack, but if you /require/ Oracle-style sequence behavior, you can get it. I totally agree that some "big boy features" seem to be missing from MySQL.
