I see. I have been looking at some of the documentation about this and it seems as this is consistent. One of the things that it says is to install Tomcat just like you would with Sun JVM, then update the property variables afterwards. Would this approach work also?

That's probably not going to work real well, since the installer looks at the registry keys that the Sun JVM sets.
