The simplest way is to use a separate CATALINA_HOME and CATALINA_BASE. Upgrades take just a few minutes with that approach. In the specific case of 7.0.10 to 7.0.11 you should be able to just replace the JAR files. - Stop 7.0.10 - Replace all the JAR files (and the docs webapp) - Empty the work directory - Start Tomcat This only works because of the very few changes between 7.0.10 and 7.0.11. Normally, this approach would bring all sorts of problems. The caveat is that this is untested and you may end up with a non-functioning Tomcat instance.
