According to http://cxf.apache.org/docs/jax-rs-client-api.html#JAX-RSClientAPI-ConfiguringClientsatRuntime it should work in version >= 3.1.0. TomEE 7.0.0 uses this version, so I guess I could create a stand alone CXF client and see what happens. Then I'll report it to CXF list if it's still a problem.
