That seems fine. The system IO activity on that spindle is probably
completely negligible. Just make sure you use a path to the partition
where you don't risk "stomping" over a system partition. I personally
prefer e.g. paths such as
/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_WDC_WD10EALS-00_WD-WCATR4725806-part1
