Yes, we're working on getting this better documented. For now, there are some 
semi-official resources you can use.

1) The original documentation - http://people.apache.org/~amc/tiphares/home.html
2) The content in (1) has been incorporated in to the docs on master in the git 
repository.
3) Look at my presentation to ApacheCon 2013 from here - 
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/TS/Presentations

The basic steps are

1) Configure your network so HTTP traffic flows through the ATS box.
2) Configure iptables (and possibly ebtables) on the ATs box to redirect HTTP 
traffic to the ATS listening port.
3) Configure ATS for transparency
        A) Use the "tr-full" option on the transparent port.
        B) Disable reverse proxy
        C) Disable remap_required
