That is the same as pressing the back button. It is a low tech solution to the problem you are trying to solve :-)
It is possible to gain access to the pages in the pagemap. I just don't have the code readily available. We use it in our system to provide users with a navigation hierarchy so they can jump back to a particular moment without having to press 20 back buttons.
