the old RequiredValidator key was supposed to be there for backwards
compat, but i guess it got taken out somehow. yes, please add this to

no you shouldnt have to, not if you give that model to a component. if
you keep imodel as a property of the component you should first run it
through component.wrap(imodel) which will do what you are doing
manually...
