If you want, you have too an implementation for your case with wiQuery (see:
http://wiquery-examples-1-1-x.appspot.com/?wicket:bookmarkablePage=:org.odlabs.wiquery.examples.droppable.DroppablePage).
But your approach is very ligthweight !!
