Well, apart from the fact that you should pretty much always be passing Models around in your Wicket layer rather than bare objects, I'm almost sure that article refers to LoadableDetachableModels. Those drop all references at the end of the request, except for something like a database key. In the next request, the required data is loaded again on the fly.
