It really was a screen space saver, but unfortunately it didn't work great in the default eclipse way of doing things. e.g. the debugger would always open up a new editor instead of the embedded editor, etc. It was annoying to the point I didn't bother installing the wicket bench plugin. In the discussions at the time it seemed like something that was very hard to solve properly, so this particular feature would always be rather awkward to use.
