I don't know the answer. What I know is that we're only displaying the  
last 50 revisions on the history page AFAIR.

If this is not already implemented, some thoughts:
* This could be done by offering a groovy script for administering  
versions.
* BTW I'm not sure this is taking lots of space since revisions are  
stored as diffs. Still I agree if you accumulate tens of years of data  
it's possible to run out of space on the database machine.
* I'd be for providing an admin script and making it available on  
xwiki.org in the admin guide somewhere (in the part for administering  
a xwiki db).
* Another solution of course is to add this in our code but it's a  
little bit more involved and we would need yet another configuration  
parameter.
