Hi James, First it's a bad practice to hijack someone else's thread unless there's relation with your problem and the "History throws exceptions".
I am not aware of your backslash problem. Could you tell me more about it? I'm especially interested since I've been rewriting the xwiki rendering subsystem and I'd like to see what your problem was and whether it's the same or not with the new rendering.
