If you're using your instance in production I'd recommend using 1.9.2, if you can handle a couple rough bits 2.0 M2 will be fine. 2.0 M2 does include all the fixes that are part of 1.9.2 . I'm not sure using either one will make a big difference when upgrading to 2.0 final. Please note that the biggest difference between 1.8 and 1.9 / 2.0 is that by default new pages are created in syntax 2.0 - if you created custom applications in the wiki, you might want to make sure that the documents they create are still created in syntax 1.0 .
