Taking out the {{{ }}} was exactly the key to getting the text 
formatting working. I don't really understand the purpose of these 
braces or what they do however, they remind me of embedded velocity code!!

Also the:

{{code language="none"}}

{{/code}}

was the answer to getting the proper code formatting that I wanted.
