just a guess: is it possible the "MetaClass" instance has not been initialized properly for whatever reason? Maybe there are some hints in the target/surefire-reports/TEST-com.xpn.xwiki.doc.XWikiDocumentTest.xml about it? Another possibility is that some code that is java8-compiled got installed in the .m2/repository and does not sit well with the current java7 build. Maybe moving away the complete repository and rebuilding helps?
