You don't have much more choices than using =5.4.5 yes. What you could do for now is add/remove the repository when you want to install a new version.
The concept of "super stable" (basically the last release of previous cycle) exist officially since 5.4.5 itself. Did not really had time to find a way to automate the filtering of those versions in a new Debian repository.
